Star Wars: The Old Republic

30 Nov

As promised, here’s my experience in playing the SWTOR weekend beta. Too bad I don’t have photos. Every time I try to get a screen shot, it just ends up with just a blacked out image. Baby daddy had the same problem too, and he’s using his own PC. We had some friends though who were able to do screen shots though.

So anyway, I had a Sith Inquisitor which I managed to level to 7. I know right! Then I decided I wanna try out the light side. So I leveled a Jedi Consular instead. I was able to get it to level 16.

The long conversations with the NPCs bored the hell out of me, honestly. It’s not like WoW wherein when you get a quest, a window will just pop up with the text of what the NPC is going to say, and then you just accept or decline. For SWTOR, the game will go into like a cinematic mode and the NPC will talk. Your answers to the NPC’s questions will affect some factors in the game like your companion‘s affection and your points towards the light or the dark side of the force. At a certain level, you’ll get a companion which levels along with you. You can equip gears and weapons to your companion. You also have the option to use your companion or not for quests. I think they count as a member for group quests. You’ll also get your own ship at around 15 or 16 I think. After I had the ship, I just played some space combat then I decided I had enough of the beta. In space combats, you will maneuver your ship and shoot through obstacles and of course, shoot the ships of the enemy.

Chances are I’ll be getting SWTOR just so I have an MMORPG to play, but I’m not too excited about it just like I was excited with WoW. but who knows, maybe I’ll also get addicted to it once I get my toon geared.

Get RIFT™ for $0

24 Nov

I woke up today with an email from Trion Worlds. Rift is on sale! You can get the Standard Edition for $0. Yup, it’s free!

The Standard edition will give you access to the complete Rift game via downloadable client. It doesn’t include a complimentary gameplay time though unlike the other editions. You need either a game time card or a subscription to play. Subscription plans are $14.99/month, $38.97/3 months, $65.94/6 months, and $119.88/year.

I played Rift for a while after I quit WoW. I know a lot of people who quit WoW played this game too. It’s also a good game, nice graphics. But I never really got into the same level of addiction I got with WoW. Yeah, the 2 to 3 days no sleep, sleep for 6 to 12 hours then play again kind of addiction lol!

Diablo 3 Beta

24 Nov

I couldn’t sleep last night so I decided to start playing the Diablo 3 Beta. People have been waiting for this for years so I thought it better be good. I was only able to try out the wizard last night though as my baby was bugging me that he also wants to play lol! Here are some screen shots. Note though that I purposely blacked out my toon’s name for less chances of having people get the same name as mine lol! I’ve been using that name on WoW and with all other games I play, so I hope to use it on Diablo 3 as well. See for yourself!

Female wizard

Character classes are demon hunter, witch doctor, monk, barbarian, and wizard. You can choose the gender on the character creation screen, and you can also customize your banner.

New Tristam

This is the entrance to New Tristam. I like the clean UI. You also get achievements like in WoW and StarCraft . And yes, you’ll also get a companion that levels up later in the game.

End of Diablo 3 Beta

After 2 hour and 14 minutes, I finished the beta. W00t! I think I took longer than usual though because I tried to explore the areas to kill all the mobs. Overall, it was really good. I can’t wait for the game to be launched. I am definitely going to get a copy as soon as they release it lol!

Update on SWTOR: I’m still downloading the beta client. They said the weekend beta will start on Friday so more on that next week.

Alienware M11x

23 Nov

I’ve been resting for a while now (read: no game addiction). I lost interest in World of Warcraft when Activision and Blizzard merged. Baby Daddy and I felt they made the game easier, thus making it more appealing to casual gamers. But games are going to be launched Q4 and I am alive again! lol

I’ll be playing Diablo 3 beta later today and Star Wars: The Old Republic beta this weekend. So more of those later.

Now on with my Alienware M11x. Performance-wise, I have absolutely no complaints about it. I got this machine last year when Baby Daddy went to Singapore. As you know, electronics are way cheaper there. Shops in the Philippines are usually selling this machine at around PHP 78,000, but if you buy it from Dell, prices start at USD 899. See the huge price difference?

For like the past 6 months though, I noticed it’s getting harder and harder to open and close my laptop. Then 2 months ago, the cover hinge just snapped. The cover got disconnected from the laptop body, and the screen stopped working. Sigh! Right now I’m using it, but I have to hook it up to my LG 42LF20FR LCD. I know right, I need to get a smaller LCD lol! But anyway, I searched online and I found out in forums that this is a known issue with M11x, probably because of the poor quality material that was used. Now the sad thing is, I don’t think they have replacement parts for this here in the Philippines. They probably need to have it shipped first from either US or Singapore. And knowing how much people are overcharging here in the Philippines, it’s probably a lot cheaper if I get a smaller LCD and pimp my computer desk at home.
