Star Wars: The Old Republic

30 Nov

As promised, here’s my experience in playing the SWTOR weekend beta. Too bad I don’t have photos. Every time I try to get a screen shot, it just ends up with just a blacked out image. Baby daddy had the same problem too, and he’s using his own PC. We had some friends though who were able to do screen shots though.

So anyway, I had a Sith Inquisitor which I managed to level to 7. I know right! Then I decided I wanna try out the light side. So I leveled a Jedi Consular instead. I was able to get it to level 16.

The long conversations with the NPCs bored the hell out of me, honestly. It’s not like WoW wherein when you get a quest, a window will just pop up with the text of what the NPC is going to say, and then you just accept or decline. For SWTOR, the game will go into like a cinematic mode and the NPC will talk. Your answers to the NPC’s questions will affect some factors in the game like your companion‘s affection and your points towards the light or the dark side of the force. At a certain level, you’ll get a companion which levels along with you. You can equip gears and weapons to your companion. You also have the option to use your companion or not for quests. I think they count as a member for group quests. You’ll also get your own ship at around 15 or 16 I think. After I had the ship, I just played some space combat then I decided I had enough of the beta. In space combats, you will maneuver your ship and shoot through obstacles and of course, shoot the ships of the enemy.

Chances are I’ll be getting SWTOR just so I have an MMORPG to play, but I’m not too excited about it just like I was excited with WoW. but who knows, maybe I’ll also get addicted to it once I get my toon geared.

Alienware M11x

23 Nov

I’ve been resting for a while now (read: no game addiction). I lost interest in World of Warcraft when Activision and Blizzard merged. Baby Daddy and I felt they made the game easier, thus making it more appealing to casual gamers. But games are going to be launched Q4 and I am alive again! lol

I’ll be playing Diablo 3 beta later today and Star Wars: The Old Republic beta this weekend. So more of those later.

Now on with my Alienware M11x. Performance-wise, I have absolutely no complaints about it. I got this machine last year when Baby Daddy went to Singapore. As you know, electronics are way cheaper there. Shops in the Philippines are usually selling this machine at around PHP 78,000, but if you buy it from Dell, prices start at USD 899. See the huge price difference?

For like the past 6 months though, I noticed it’s getting harder and harder to open and close my laptop. Then 2 months ago, the cover hinge just snapped. The cover got disconnected from the laptop body, and the screen stopped working. Sigh! Right now I’m using it, but I have to hook it up to my LG 42LF20FR LCD. I know right, I need to get a smaller LCD lol! But anyway, I searched online and I found out in forums that this is a known issue with M11x, probably because of the poor quality material that was used. Now the sad thing is, I don’t think they have replacement parts for this here in the Philippines. They probably need to have it shipped first from either US or Singapore. And knowing how much people are overcharging here in the Philippines, it’s probably a lot cheaper if I get a smaller LCD and pimp my computer desk at home.
